LCD problems

  Hi guys,
  
  I have problems with the Newhaven LCD. it sometimes displays dead rows or columns, and sometimes comes on slow and spotty...
  
  R694 is a wire bridge and i checked the connections from the controller to the LCD.
  
  Any ideas what else I could try? I'm not sure the LCD itself is the problem, because it's new and sometimes it works ok...
  
  Is there some potential for shorts that i overlooked perhaps?
