I've been working on the NAVA firmware for a while and have put out a version other owners can use.
Source, pre-built .hex, manual and key chart:
https://github.com/Modularsoundsystems/ ... a-firmware

It's 1.0 and it's been tested on one machine — mine. If you flash it and something behaves oddly, please open an issue and tell me what you pressed and in what order if possible.
It's a derivative of E-licktronic's v1.028beta — credit to them for the machine, to [zabox] and rest for the community fixes already in it. It carries no licence of its own and claims no rights over the original code.
The fixes. Trigger jitter used to depend on how many instruments were in a step — about 35 µs each, so a busy bar fired up to 350 µs late. That's gone. Six stack buffer overflows in the LCD code, smashing memory on every redraw, which I think explains the long-standing intermittent glitches. Synced pattern changes now actually land on the bar line. No dropped tick when you turn the tempo knob. The hi-hat no longer flams between weak and strong hits. About forty more.
The additions. Undo and redo, four levels. Trig conditions — play a step on the Xth of every Y bars, with a probability. Links, so one voice can play only when another did or didn't. Per-instrument lane length, seven against sixteen. Pattern chains. Cyclic record. Per-instrument swing. Flam. Naming and a browser. And SysEx pattern backup, so your patterns survive a chip erase.
Your patterns are safe — the storage format is unchanged from stock, so patterns move both ways and you can go back whenever you like.
⚠ Flashing chip-erases the part. Read your existing firmware out and keep the file before you write anything. The readme has the avrdude line.
And happy 9.09 everyone!
MSS NAVA Firmware 1.0 — free alternative firmware for the NAVA / NAVA Extra 9
Thank you so much for all your work! I'm going to try installing it right now.
Hi there and thanks for this (additional) alternative firmware.
Anybody can report on how it works? I'm still running 1.028 with Extra9+ kit installed, but I remember there are a lot of bugs which have never been addressed by Vincent.
TIA

I'll be interested to see what feedback comes in as more owners test it on their machines. Great work documenting the changes and the flashing risks!Yasha909 wrote: ↑Sep 9th, '26, 12:53 I've been working on the NAVA firmware for a while and have put out a version other owners can use.

Thanks for putting the time into this, some great stuff.
Sorry I feel like I'm spamming but, I saw in the video comments of people not having Arduino/ISP skills.
I do know how, but for whatever reason (probably a bad usb cable) I couldn't get any of my spare nano/unos to flash the Arduino ISP sketch. I ended up finding this page which you can use to upload the firmware hex via midi.

Just trying to lower bar for entry cus this is a ace.
Also, I don't wanna spam the issues on GitHub too much, without checking I'm using some of the functions right. Is it ok to fire up anything I'm confused about here? I only had a couple of quick goes but I've got some time coming up where I wanna just use this and another box to record some stuff. And in doing so, could help find anything that ain't quite right.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but in step mode selecting Open hat by pressing 13/14 doesnt always select OH.
I'm assuming this should be working the same as how flam is selected on the other 'two button instruments'
It very hard to jump from CH to OH. But if I select another instrument, let go of instrument select. Then press instrument select and both Hat buttons it will then select OH, but even then it's quite finiky.
Maybe this is a user issue tho?
EDIT: Looking at both the manual and the shortcut list, I now believe this a bug

Hello, actually i try to understand the new mss navaextra9 firmware
That i don't understand, is how translate hex files into sysex
And also, when you open the files, there is the manual, and where is the program isn't very clear
It seems me there is program in 2 or 3 differents files when you open the hex gitub files
Is someone can help me to translate that in sysex?
